I've seen the lexus V8 used in a few hydro's now and they go ok. You will need to play with the gear ratio and prop a bit to get it sorted but should pull 100 + mph.

It may turn out to be that ghostbuster you are looking for.

from what i can gather, these jap v8s area good thing.Everyones use en em,from hot rodders to street machiners to drag racing. With an almost bullet proof bottom end and a valve train to match these things should rev their little brains out.I cant wait to see it in the hydro.

the dizzy allmost done a sawrnoff holden v8 hei hangin off the left front timing gear

now back to the inlet manifolds a 4 bl or a pair of 2 bl is tempting but i think i will persist with the bike ones 40mm id flat slides off a 01 r1 yamaha the inlet ports in the head are 40mm and the ex are 35mm so if i make some long extractors
hardest thing will be geting the jets right

I run a lexus in my Hydro,
It runs 9000 RPM all day.
After the Holdens sometimes the lexus is a little bit boring (a good boring) as I just get out and walk away after a race. Mines injected and we plug the computor in now and again to check the tune but thats about it. It self tunes every 40 seconds!
I have put 1 set of plugs in it since I put it in the boat 2 years ago.
The only thing is they are like a 4.2 out of the turnes a bit doey but once the wind up they go well.
